MaidSafeCoin (MAID) is one of the most well established tokens in the market cap top one-hundred, having launched in early 2014. But that longevity hasn’t stopped it from hitting a series of lower lows throughout 2018, en route to Saturday’s dollar valuation of $0.184909. That’s the lowest MaidSafeCoin has fallen since April of 2017, marking […] The post MaidSafeCoin (MAID) Price Hits 18-Month Low as Daily Losses Continue appeared first on Hacked: Hacking Finance.

PARSEC: The Release of the Code
At the end of May, we announced the release of the PARSEC Whitepaper and RFC. Standing for the Protocol for Asynchronous Reliable Secure and Efficient Consensus, the new consensus mechanism will power not only the SAFE Network but will also help many other decentralised projects looking to build global, permissionless networks across the world. The release generated a huge amount of interest online and now, only a few weeks later, we’re delighted to announce that we’re releasing the actual PARSEC code itself. That’s right – as of today, you

Proof of Resource
The SAFE Network is a vast project which involves many different technological innovations. That’s hardly surprising when you consider that our mission is to provide a new decentralised internet that will provide privacy, security and freedom for the world. But it does mean that it’s not unusual to find that certain principles that lie behind the SAFE Network architecture require a little bit more explanation than others. One of the ways that we’ve addressed this is by releasing a few high level videos: for example, explaining why a SAFE futu

Down We Go: $38 Billion Evaporated as Bitcoin, Altcoins Net Double Digit Losses
For those calling for the end of the bear cycle- hold tight a little longer. Following the extended sideways market movements, a price explosion was imminent. Unfortunately, this action took place in favor of sellers, as Bitcoin continues to tumble over the course of the past 24 hours. Altcoins have similarly followed suit. Last night, Bitcoin’s channel between US$7,500 and $7,700 broke, as the king of cryptocurrency saw a steep decline of $300 down to the $7,300 mark.

How much of your life is stored digitally? Your photos, your files, your most intimate conversations, it’s all on a hard drive somewhere and it’s probably easy to access by you, but also by the cloud storage companies you trust. A Spring in Our Step – May 2018 Update
Following the excitement of SAFE DevCon 2018 in late April, May has been a month of hard work that culminated in the release of PARSEC.  This latest innovation is not only an amazing achievement for the MaidSafe team but also a paradigm shift for asynchronous and permissionless consensus that could benefit many projects.   Going from Strength to StrengthMore on PARSEC later but let’s have a look at some of the other developments first. PARSEC: A Paradigm Shift for Asynchronous and Permissionless Consensus
On Thursday 24th May, we were delighted to announce the release of a new consensus mechanism that we believe will radically change the world of distributed computing. Whilst we rarely engage in the hype that’s all too common within the crypto sphere, this one is worth shouting about — because we’ve created the world’s first (as far as we’re aware!) completely decentralised, open source, highly asynchronous, Byzantine Fault Tolerant consensus mechanism. PARSEC (Protocol for Asynchronous, Reliable, Secure and Efficient Consensus) has been built

Designing the New Internet
By Jim Collinson I first logged on to the internet back in the early days of the web. A hand-me-down computer from a programmer uncle meant that Christmas of ’94 was a revelation; a new frontier of knowledge opened up in-front of me. The sum of human understanding was being amassed, and was right at my fingertips: graphic design, politics, music, race car engineering… it was all there to be absorbed, pored over, discussed, contributed to. And that, to me, is the essence of the internet. A meeting of like minded individuals; teaching, learnin

New Team Member – Connor Wood
I started writing software when I was 9 years old, after my brother, entirely by accident, discovered an easter egg in a game he was playing. A face, hidden inside a lamp (for those of you familiar with the matter, this was Dan Johnson’s face, a running gag at Insomniac Games for a few years). “I want to learn how to do that.” Fast forwards a few months of having dabbled in various dialects of BASIC, a family member recommended I pick up C, as it was a far more serious language and would carry me much further. Later on, I started to pick up

Over the last year, we’ve watched with interest as the tech industry press published various articles inspired by HBO’s hugely popular ‘Silicon Valley’ TV show. Although the show is one of those rare beasts – one that’s both funny and accurate about the industry it’s parodying – it was the story of an attempt by a wacky startup to pivot and build a decentralised internet that really captured their attention. As the articles point out, the startup’s idea is not quite as crazy as it first sounds, with each one explaining that this type of work

The SAFE Network is a self-configuring and autonomous network designed to manage all our data and communications without any human intervention and without intermediaries. In the past, it has been likened to a cyber brain, complex in nature and requires all component parts to all work in unison to achieve our vision of digital privacy, security and freedom for all. No need to reinvent the wheel It has never been our intention to invent everything ourselves, although this has quite often ended up being the case. SAFE Network features like Self

Regulation
Yesterday we were informed that Bittrex are going to be delisting MaidSafeCoin. The suddenness of the news, which takes effect on the 9th of March, came as a surprise. The rapidly changing regulatory landscape in the US (where Bittrex are based) is evidenced with the SEC taking a greater interest and more proactive approach in cryptocurrencies. While we can’t say too much about the process that led to the decision (as we had been asked to sign NDAs) the reason provided was MaidSafeCoin’s current lack of utility on the SAFE Network. Cloud storage is nothing new. For years now, it’s been possible for consumers to forego the traditional local storage options afforded by external hard drives, and to instead subscribe to a third-party service that allows them to upload and download their files to remote servers run by companies such as Google, Apple, Dropbox and Amazon, to name a few. The remote option offers certain advantages over physical storage – accessibility from multiple devices and no reliance on hardware (which can be destroyed or stolen). Typically, the models are

Photo Jingyi Wang At MaidSafe we talk about the SAFE Network being ‘autonomous’, but what does that really mean? The phrase is something that we are becoming more familiar with, as we hear talk of autonomous vehicles and autonomous robots; as such we probably have a grasp of the underlying concept that autonomous machines do things for themselves. But how does this relate to data and why should we even care? In simple terms it defines a network that manages all our data and communications without any human intervention and without intermedi

It is important to note that these apps should be considered as a technology preview, a very useful proof point for us that

Metaquestions We know Artificial Intelligence (AI) is coming, we see the Internet of Things (IoT) happening. We know trains, planes and automobiles will become autonomous. This is not news. We know data is key to modern industries, we know robots will communicate, we understand and accept securing all of this will be a nightmare.
